POSITION DESCRIPTION: Science Central, a hands-on science center (physical, natural and applied sciences), is currently hiring a self-motivated, self-directed, creative, outgoing, and organized individual to assist Visitor Services staffing, as well as lead and grow the volunteer program. This is a mid-level management position. Visitor Services duties will include – model good visitor service principles, along with training front line admissions staff in all aspects of their job; serve as the first point of contact in admissions- and visitor-related problems (technology, emergencies, security, upset visitors, etc.), and trouble-shooting and fixing issues when possible; assist at the Admissions Desk and on the floor; presenting a positive and friendly image to all visitors during the admissions process (greet visitors, sell admissions tickets, communicate daily activities information, promote memberships) and during their stay serve at an information desk, handle Gift Shop transactions; act as the primary manager on duty throughout the week, including weekends; coordinate daily visitor activities such as greet school groups and special groups into the building; deal with issues such as lost kids or upset visitors in a tactful manner, or injured visitors and associated paperwork; communicate with visitors and staff in a courteous and professional way; coordinate daily admissions- and building-opening and –closing procedures; coordinate and analyze various visitor surveys; both attend and lead internal committee meetings and external community meetings. Volunteer program duties include – develop and grow the volunteer program to meet the community needs and vision of the Executive Director (this position will be leading the creation of an expanded volunteer program); attend community events to attract high school, college and adult volunteers; meet, interview, schedule and review potential volunteers; coordinate volunteer availability with building needs and Science Central’s functional departments (education, administration/office, exhibits, admissions, etc); help develop volunteer benefits; coordinate paperwork and perform data entry, analysis and presentation; maintain paper and electronic records.

Must be self-motivated, show initiative and be tech-savvy.
QUALIFICATIONS: Have or working towards a college degree is preferred, some post-secondary education is highly recommended. Must possess at least two years of work experience and/or educational training working with people in retail, customer service, hospitality cultural sector, or related background. Experience with cash handling and cash register operations. Experience in the informal education, communications, customer service or retail field. Public speaking background and science classes recommended. Must be comfortable working in a science-related organization. Experience with managing staff. Valid Drivers License and successful completion of a Criminal Background Check is required.
SCHEDULE: Full-time, exempt, schedule WILL include weekends, early hours and evenings, must be flexible
SALARY: $23,660/year, with benefits, full-time, exempt position
POSITION: Part-Time Educators (Education Specialists)
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Involvement with informal, hands-on, educational science center programs (physical, natural and applied sciences); assist in the development and presentation of public, school, scout and special programs; audiences include schools, teachers, community centers, scout groups, families, etc; programs will be done both on-site and out in the community; programs include demonstrations, exhibit interpretation, classes/labs, science camps, birthday parties, outreaches, etc.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Be incredibly prepared and flexible; very responsible and organized, time- and detail-oriented; be creative; comfort with and interest in science and education; have exceptional public speaking abilities, comfortable working with audiences of all sizes/ ages/backgrounds, outgoing, energetic, enthusiastic; professional in attitude and appearance; do moderate lifting (approx. 40 lbs.)
QUALIFICATIONS: College science/education/etc. strongly classes recommended; must have experience in public speaking and/or teaching; experience in the informal science education field preferred.
SCHEDULE: Part-time; variable hours each week; schedule will primarily be Mon-Fri, limited weekend hours, some holidays and evenings; must be flexible. Note that this is not temporary, seasonal employment.
SALARY: $9.00/hour, increased to $10.00/hour after 6-month probationary period; limited time-off benefits
