What nonprofit organizations are you associated with and in which capacities (employee, volunteer, board member, etc.)?

I am the Director of Theater Operations at Fort Wayne Cinema Center, former intern at the PCNRC, and volunteer with the Harry Potter Alliance. I also just accepted a position with Start Fort Wayne‘s Atrium.

How did you first become involved with your current organization(s)?

I’ve worked with Cinema Center for the past year and a half. I initially applied simply by sending my resume to Jonah, the Executive Director, asking him to contact me if/when they had any staff positions available. I’m so happy I did! In July of this year I applied for, and accepted, the Director of Theater Operations position.

My other nonprofit stories are similar. With both the PCNRC and the Harry Potter Alliance, I saw they had available positions and immediately sent in an application.

What is your favorite part of the organization(s) you work with? Why?

I have so many favorite parts. I think with all of the nonprofits I’ve worked or volunteered with, the people I work with are always the best part. Being surrounded by passionate and engaged people is truly amazing and really inspiring.

With the Harry Potter Alliance I help create fan activism social justice toolkits for their Fandom Forward initiative. This is quite literally a dream come true for me. I get to work with amazing volunteers from all generations (13-years old, 20-year olds, 40-year olds) to create tookits that use pop culture fandoms to raise awareness for issues and promote other nonprofits addressing those issues.

At Cinema Center I get to work with other organizations to promote diverse films and events for the community.

What makes working with nonprofits fulfilling for you?

Working with nonprofits is fulfilling because I feel apart of a community. I feel empowered to help facilitate positive change.

What is the coolest thing about the organization(s) you work with?

So much. I can’t even pick. I’m very lucky.

Anything else you’d like to add?

If you’re interested in volunteering or working with nonprofits, do it!
